Egyptian for "Bear"
In our phone conversation this evening, Papa Miao told me the Egyptian word for bear: "Hetmet". It's a Late Egyptian word, and quite rare, because they didn't have bears in Ancient Egypt. We've always considered Kemi anomalous for that reason - a bear named after Egypt, an originally bear-less land.
After telling me, Papa Miao sighed a little sadly, and I asked him why.
Papa Miao: Unfortunately, etymologically the word means "destroyer" or "monster".
Little Miao: Oh, that's okay. You know, in real life, the Tyrannosaurus Rex was really just a soft cuddly little feather puff.
Papa Miao: Just like the stuffed toys you had when you were little.
I wasn't sure if it was a question or a statement, so we just left it at that.

Care Bear couldn't be a monster if he tried! Although he is monstrously floofy, and monstrously cute... and he destroys all nastiness leaving purring and joy in its wake.
How's that?
Hetmet
You could almost say it, purring.
Monstrously cute.
