Here are some of my favorite China Ping photos, in honor of his birthday.

Pictured above: One of our kitties from China, and a relative of Ping (I forget how it works out - purrhaps Strawberry was his auntie?)  You can tell from Strawberry's fur that she was an outdoor kitty for the most part.  Another family took care of Strawberry for a while, but when she was going to have her babies, we took her in.

Ping's most smoochable white spot, which he earned while exploring the innards of a laundry machine in China.

When he was a kitten, he got his head stuck in a hole where a hose was supposed to go.  We were about to leave the apartment for school when we heard Ping's plaintive mewing coming from the laundry room/bathroom.  I panicked almost as much as poor baby Ping.  Mama Miao came to the rescue.  It was a long process, and for a while, it looked impossible.  Mama Miao slicked his fur down with White Cat Liquid Soap (one of the few brands of soap available in China at the time).  Finally, after lots of wiggling and pulling and pushing, she was able to free his kingly little head.  A tiny spot of orange fur was scraped from the top of his head, but otherwise he was fine.  To this day, it serves as a reminder of the adventures of little plumber Ping.

The Miao Council issued a statement this evening declaring that His Royal Majesty King Ping never said "Pa is dear and Ma is dear, but Chairman Mao is the dearest"*, despite photographic evidence to the contrary.

Ping was about one year old, in China, when these photos were taken.  The arms are Papa Miao's, not mine.
