It's been a while (months?) since I've posted music...
Who can say the way it should be;
Moonlight holly, the sappho comet,
Angel’s tears below a tree.
You talk of the break of morning
As you view the new aurora,
Cloud in crimson, the key of heaven,
One love carved in acajou.
One told me of china roses,
One a thousand nights and one night,
Earth’s last picture, the end of evening:
Hue of indigo and blue.
A new moon leads me to
Woods of dreams and I follow.
A new world waits for me;
My dream, my way.
I know that if I have heaven
There is nothing to desire.
Rain and river, a world of wonder
May be paradise to me.
I see the sun.
I see the stars.
What's the weirdest baby name you've ever heard (or considered)?
For years I've wanted to name a child Ichabod (meaning "where is the glory?"). Then I could nickname him Icky. Icky Miao.
Also, I'd love to name another one Bysshe after the great Romantic poet Percy Bysshe Shelley.
For girls, I'm thinking about Melisma. It sounds intriguingly similar to miasma, but it actually refers to a musical technique in which a single syllable is drawn out over multiple notes. One of my favorite examples of melisma is from the Messe de Tournai, the oldest surviving intact mass. The last two and a half minutes or so of the track are a single syllable from "amen".
Check out the special bonus material for this post!!!11!!
New Name for Tantra (inspired by IG):
Yummy-Tummy Tweetums the Precious Gizmo
One moment from heaven
As I am walking
Surrounded by night,
Stars high above me
Make a wish under moonlight.
On my way home
I remember
Only good days.
On my way home
I remember all the best days.
Im on my way home
I can remember
Every new day.
I move in silence
With each step taken,
Snow falling round me
Like angels in flight,
Far in the distance
Is my wish under moonlight.
Which band or artist which is no longer performing or alive would you have loved to have seen?

Franz Liszt! Just thinking of him makes me swoon. He is possibly the greatest virtuoso pianist who ever lived. Unfortunately, he lived in the 19th century and no recordings of his playing exist.
The first track is my favorite of Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsodies, transposed for four hands. It's the most widely known of Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsodies. The second track is the same piece, solo version.
Prince Tantra has no doubt that he's better than Bach. Sure, he appreciates Bach's music (ornate, sublime, sparkling - just like Prince Tantra himself). But 1) musicians are manual laborers, and 2) Bach had to wear a wig. The Prince, in all his Purrfection, has never had to lift a paw to work in his life. Moreover, a wig would be an insult to his magnificent coat. Thus, the Prince continues his reign as the Pinnacle of Purrfection.
I just read on AmyH's vox that today is the anniversary of the debut of Beethoven's 9th Symphony. Thanks for sharing, AmyH! Beethoven's 9th is among my all-time favorite compositions and I would have hated to have missed this day.
In celebration, here's the full choral movement (see end of post for Schiller's poem and translation, lifted from wikipedia). I think vox managed to upload the entire 25 minutes of it. I, on the other hand, forgot to upload album art for it, but it's too late for that now. If you have the time, please listen. I guarantee you won't be disappointed. I'm sure Papa Miao will be singing along if he plays it. :)
Also, please enjoy Paul Robeson's version with his modified lyrics.
- German original
- Freude, schöner Götterfunken
- Tochter aus Elysium,
- Wir betreten feuertrunken,
- Himmlische, dein Heiligtum!
- Deine Zauber binden wieder
- Was die Mode streng geteilt;
- Alle Menschen werden Brüder,
- (Schiller: Was der Mode Schwert geteilt;
- Bettler werden Fürstenbrüder,)
- Wo dein sanfter Flügel weilt.
- Chor
- Seid umschlungen, Millionen!
- Diesen Küß der ganzen Welt!
- Brüder - über'm Sternenzelt
- Muss ein lieber Vater wohnen.
- Ihr stürzt nieder, Millionen?
- Ahnest du den Schöpfer, Welt?
- Such' ihn über'm Sternenzelt!
- Über Sternen muss er wohnen.
- Wem der große Wurf gelungen,
- Eines Freundes Freund zu sein;
- Wer ein holdes Weib errungen,
- Mische seinen Jubel ein!
- Ja, wer auch nur eine Seele
- Sein nennt auf dem Erdenrund!
- Und wer's nie gekonnt, der stehle
- Weinend sich aus diesem Bund!
- Freude trinken alle Wesen
- An den Brüsten der Natur;
- Alle Guten, alle Bösen
- Folgen ihrer Rosenspur.
- Küsse gab sie uns und Reben,
- Einen Freund, geprüft im Tod;
- Wollust ward dem Wurm gegeben,
- Und der Cherub steht vor Gott.
- Froh, wie seine Sonnen fliegen
- Durch des Himmels prächt'gen Plan,
- Laufet, Brüder, eure Bahn,
- Freudig, wie ein Held zum Siegen.
- Seid umschlungen, Millionen!
- Diesen Küß der ganzen Welt!
- Brüder, über'm Sternenzelt
- Muss ein lieber Vater wohnen.
- Ihr stürzt nieder, Millionen?
- Ahnest du den Schöpfer, Welt?
- Such' ihn über'm Sternenzelt!
- Über Sternen muss er wohnen.
- Finale repeats the words:
- Seid umschlungen, Millionen!
- Diesen Küß der ganzen Welt!
- Brüder, über'm Sternenzelt
- Muss ein lieber Vater wohnen.
- Seid umschlungen,
- Diesen Küß der ganzen Welt!
- Freude, schöner Götterfunken
- Tochter aus Elysium,
- Freude, schöner Götterfunken
- English translation
- Joy, thou glorious spark of heaven,
- Daughter of Elysium,
- We approach fire-drunk,
- Heavenly One, your shrine.
- Your magic reunites
- What custom strictly parts;
- All people become brothers,
- (Schiller: What custom's sword separates;
- Beggars become princes' brothers)
- Where your gentle wing alights.
- Chorus
- Be embraced, you millions!
- This kiss for the whole world!
- Brothers, beyond the star-canopy
- Must a loving Father dwell.
- Do you bow down, you millions?
- Do you sense the Creator, world?
- Seek Him beyond the star-canopy!
- Beyond the stars must He dwell.
- Whoever succeeds in the great attempt
- To be a friend of a friend,
- Whoever has won a lovely woman,
- Let him add his jubilation!
- Yes, whoever calls even one soul
- His own on the earth's globe!
- And who never has, let him steal,
- Weeping, away from this group.
- All creatures drink joy
- At the breasts of nature;
- All the good, all the evil
- Follow her roses' trail.
- Kisses gave she us, and wine,
- A friend, proven unto death;
- Pleasure was to the worm granted,
- And the cherub stands before God.
- Glad, as his suns fly
- Through the Heavens' glorious plan,
- Run, brothers, your race,
- Joyful, as a hero to victory.
- Finale repeats the words:
- Be embraced, ye millions!
- This kiss for the whole world!
- Brothers, beyond the star-canopy
- Must a loving Father dwell.
- Be embraced,
- This kiss for the whole world!
- Joy, beautiful spark of the gods,
- Daughter of Elysium,
- Joy, beautiful spark of the gods.
