Well, it doesn't really feel like spring here, in terms of weather or in terms of spirits. However, I find the bright, clear tone of the Chinese dulcimer irresistibly optimistic. Here are two springtime tunes for anyone who cares to listen.
Professor Tashi speculates that the dulcimer was introduced to China through Persia towards the end of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). The dulcimer's sound ranges from delicately melodious to dizzyingly fast. It is played with hammers, which unfortunately makes it a difficult instrument for cats to master, as their claws are more ideally suited to plucked instruments.
