What's the meanest thing you've ever said to someone?
I tried unsuccessfully to teach Prince Tantra a lesson that would, once and for all, put an end to his gratuitous hissing at his poor (but not wholly innocent) baby brother Lotus. Incidents like this one, where all four brothers were napping peacefully when Prince Tantra suddenly had a hissy-growly fit.
He was interested, but not at all offended. Our conversation went something like this, with the hissy-growlies playing on loop in the background.
LM: Listen to your tantrum, Tantra.
Tantra: That creature is so purrfect it could only be me.
LM: It's not nice getting hissed at, is it?
Tantra: My teeth are so purrfectly sharp! My whiskers so purrfectly arranged!
LM: Think of how Baby Lotus feels when you hiss at him!
Tantra: The resolution isn't so great, I'm even more purrfect than purrfect in real life.
LM: Now promise never to do it again.
Tantra: Purrfect purrfect purrfect. Practice makes purrfect. Must keep practicing.
My window blinds rubbing against the window sill is making a grrrr grrrr grrrrr noise like Tantroll. At first I thought there must be a kitty growling outside my window, but alas, no.
Yesterday was the Twins' 9th birthday. Tantra started off the day in a very lovey-dovey mood. He begged for cuddles and hugs before breakfast. But at breakfast, he ate hardly anything, even though Papa Miao served the birthday boys some extra special gourmet canned food. Tashi ended up eating double servings.
Later that morning, Tantra settled on the table where everyone could see and admire him. Ping was at his morning post by the window. Tashi stopped by to read the morning news. When Lotus settled down next to Tantra, the usually touchy Prince didn't seem to mind at all. He huffed - but he didn't huff and puff like the Big Bad Wolf. When Lotus rudely swished his tail in Tantra's face, Tantra hardly seemed to notice.
Just when I was beginning to think that Tantroll and Batcat finally had a truce, Tantra pulled back like a snake about to strike and hissed three times in a row. I decided to relocate the offending Lotus out of deference to the birthday boy.
little miao hasn't gotten very far on her summer reading list yet. She only read four or five books in June, and a couple of those she had started before so it's kind of cheating. Batcats never cheat. Now that she's back with us at the Miao House she'll be reading more because reading with kitties is one of her favorite pastimes.
Except with my big brother Tantra. He won't let her read if she's cuddling him. If she's holding a book he gets huffy-puffy and then growly and if she doesn't put the book down fast enough and turn out the light he'll leave. Last night Tantra was sitting in the little cookbook bookcase and he reached out and snagged me when I walked by to my food dish. I just ignored him even though he pulled off a clawful of fur and hissed at me. I'll get back at him when he's least expecting it.
Now little miao's reading Twelfth Night and she wants me to take her to a production of the play. I want to, but I gotta go save a damsel in distress from the silverfish who are invading her workplace. little miao will just have to wait.
